Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a diligent Category Buyer for an FMCG retailer. Based in East London, Eastern Cape, you will source and procure products, negotiate terms, and optimize category performance to meet consumer demand.

You will collaborate with merchandising and marketing, manage supplier relationships, and drive efficient procurement processes to enhance product availability and value.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field such as SCM.
• Solid negotiation and relationships with suppliers.
• Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in MS Excel and procurement software.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Source and procure products for assigned categories, ensuring alignment with strategy and consumer needs.
• Negotiate favorable terms, pricing, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
• Analyze market trends, competitor offerings, and sales data to identify procurement opportunities.
• Manage supplier relationships, performance, and compliance.
• Ensure product quality and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with merchandising and marketing to optimize product assortment and promotions.
• Manage inventory levels to minimize stock-outs and reduce holding costs.
• Prepare category performance reports and provide strategic insights.
• Identify new product opportunities and assess supplier capabilities.
• Stay updated on procurement best practices and category management.
