We are hiring for a fly fishing educator to teach fly fishing classes near Loveland, CO and train directly under Erin in 2026, attend training in Idaho Springs at the Women's Hunting Skills Camp, and launch in 2027. Fly Fishing Guide — Northern Colorado

Primary Location: River’s Edge Natural Area, Loveland, CO

Season: April–September

Time Commitment: ~6 Fly Fishing 101 classes over 6 months (primarily weekends), and help with our camps and retreats. Please check our camp dates for your availability before applying.

About The Role

We are thrilled for Sarah as she heads to vet school—and we’ll be honest: these are big shoes to fill. Sarah helped shape the tone, professionalism, and heart of our Northern Colorado fly fishing program, and we’re looking for someone excited to carry that torch forward.

This role is centered on teaching Fly Fishing 101 classes, building local community, and welcoming new anglers into the sport in a way that is inclusive, confidence-building, and grounded in conservation.

This is not a traditional tourist guiding job. Our clients are local women who want education, connection, and a safe place to learn.

Position Summary

The Fly Fishing Guide is responsible for teaching beginner fly fishing classes at River’s Edge Natural Area under our existing permit. You will manage your class schedule, promote your offerings locally, and deliver consistent, high-quality instruction aligned with Uncharted Outdoorswomen's teaching standards.

You may also have opportunities to assist with fly fishing camps and retreats throughout the season.

This is an independent, flexible role ideal for someone who wants to teach, build community, and grow alongside a mission-driven organization.

Core Responsibilities

• Fly Fishing 101 Classes
• Teach Fly Fishing 101 classes at River’s Edge Natural Area (Loveland, CO)
• Schedule classes using our standard format
• Copy & paste our approved class description
• Calculate commissions using our system
• Classes typically occur on weekends
• Community Outreach & Local Promotion (Optional)
• Share your classes within the Northern Colorado community
• Help grow the Loveland/Fort Collins fly fishing audience
• Host or help organize free, community-building fly fishing happy hours at coffee shops or breweries
• Camps & Retreat Support
• Assist with fly fishing camps and retreats as needed
• Teach alongside other Uncharted guides in a collaborative environment
• Optional Independent Guiding (Optional)
• You are not required to do traditional private guiding
• You may guide independently in permitted areas if you choose
• Independent guiding operates under a 55% commission structure
• All expenses (flies, wader rentals, etc.) are the guide's responsibility
• You set your availability—there is no guide hierarchy
• Guides with a strong local following may earn significant income here
• Gear & Logistics
• Company Rods are available if you are assisting with Emily & Erin's classes.
• It is best that you have 4-5 guide rods if teaching alone.
• Maintain gear cleanliness.
• Email clients if needed.
• Content & Communication
• Take 2 photos per class (1 group photo, 1 inspiring or educational moment)
• Upload photos to the shared Google folder
• Write one educational blog related to fly fishing
• Communicate consistently in the Team Slack channel

Required Qualifications

• CPR & First Aid certified
• GPS device (Garmin InReach, Zoleo, etc.)
• Comfortable using technology (everything runs through our website dashboard)
• Able to manage schedules, attendees, and communication online

Ideal Candidate

You Are Someone Who

• Lives near Loveland or Northern Colorado
• Is a team player with excellent communication skills
• Is highly professional (yes—this includes hygiene)
• Is comfortable with Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Calendar)
• Can confidently teach our standard Fly Fishing 101 curriculum
• Can capture a solid group photo or selfie
• Values inclusivity and is tired of toxic masculinity in outdoor spaces

Not Required

• Guide school (not required in Colorado)
• Traditional private guiding
• Insurance, waivers, or legal paperwork (we handle this)

How Will You Grow?

Our immediate focus is community-building in Northern Colorado. As demand grows, so will opportunities.

Future Expansion May Include

• Additional Fly Fishing 101 classes
• Teaching roles across fly fishing, hunting, and foraging
• 1–2 guided trips per year in Rocky Mountain National Park (late July–early September)
• Becoming part of a Northern Colorado team of 5 guides across disciplines

Growth here is intentional, supported, and aligned with the community—not rushed.

Compensation

Tier 1: Teaching & Support Guide

This tier is designed for guides who want to focus on teaching and supporting lead guides.

• $15/hour for teaching Fly Fishing 101 classes
• Additional commissions based on the number of participants enrolled
• Uncharted Outdoorswomen:
• Schedules and fills the event
• Handles marketing and follow-up emails
• This role primarily supports lead guides and established programming
• Ideal for guides who want to show up prepared, teach well, and contribute without managing logistics

Tier 2: Lead Guide / Event Builder

This tier is for guides who want to take ownership of their own events.

• Up to 30% commission on gross revenue for events you:
• Create and schedule
• Market and fill
• Coordinate logistics for
• Responsibilities include:
• Working directly with clients
• Coordinating with other guides as needed
• Managing event-specific logistics and communication
• Higher earning potential tied directly to effort, outreach, and community-building

Important Notes

• There is no hierarchy of guides—tiers reflect responsibility, not seniority
• Guides may move between tiers depending on the event
• Compensation and expectations are communicated clearly in advance for every event

Bottom Line

If you want to teach and support, you’re paid for your time plus commissions.

If you want to build and lead, you’re compensated for the full scope of that work.
