Job description

We are hiring a fly fishing educator to teach Fly Fishing 101 classes in Loveland, CO, with potential expansion into Rocky Mountain National Park, Indian Peaks Wilderness, and James Peak Wilderness.

We are sad to see Sarah go to vet school but excited for the new educator to fill her shoes!

This role involves teaching Fly Fishing 101 classes at River's Edge Natural Area in Loveland from April to September, approximately 6 classes over 6 months. Our permit covers only River's Edge Natural Area, with classes typically on weekends.

  • Assist with fly fishing camps and retreats.
  • You may use permitted areas for guiding but are not required to do traditional guiding; compensation varies with a 55% commission on expenses like waders and flies.
  • Set your availability and manage your schedule independently.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Schedule classes, copy our standard class description, and calculate commissions.
  • Promote classes within your local community.
  • Borrow or rent company gear as needed.
  • Take and upload photos of classes and moments.
  • Write educational blog posts about fly fishing.
  • CPR/First Aid certification and GPS device.
  • Proficiency with our website and communication tools like Slack.

Ideal Candidates:

  • Team players with excellent communication skills.
  • Professional appearance and hygiene.
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace tools.
  • Ability to teach our standard fly fishing class.
  • Ability to capture quality photos.
  • Not employed by another fly fishing outfitter.
  • Interest in hosting community events like fly fishing happy hours.
  • Willingness to participate in our annual team trip.

Optional but Not Required:

  • Guide school (not required in Colorado).
  • Traditional guiding or insurance requirements (handled by us).

Growth Opportunities:

Focus on building a community presence in Northern Colorado, with future expansion into guiding trips in Rocky Mountain National Park and developing a team of 5 instructors for fly fishing, hunting, and foraging.

Onboarding Plan: 30/60/90 Days

30 Days:

  • Confirm event dates and upload to the website.
  • Learn permitted land regulations and venue details.
  • Training on marketing and website tools.
  • Assist and shadow other guides’ events.
  • Promote your events on Facebook.
  • Bi-weekly check-ins.

60 Days:

  • Host your launch event or participate in existing ones.
  • Continue shadowing and promoting events.
  • Bi-weekly check-ins.

90 Days:

  • Receive branded gear and access to discounts.
  • Obtain pro-deal and donation access.
  • Quarterly review and feedback session.
