Job summary

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Fluorination Reprocessing R&D Engineer to join the Pyrochemical Science department at the Materials and Fuels Complex. This role involves designing experiments, collecting data, and publishing results to advance nuclear fuel cycle technologies.

The ideal candidate has ABET-accredited Chemical Engineering degrees (Level 3 or Level 4), hands-on fluorination experience, and the ability to obtain a Q clearance.

Qualifications

• Experience in nuclear chemical engineering and hands-on high-temperature fluorination of nuclear materials.
• Knowledge of uranium/plutonium and fission product behavior under fluorination conditions.
• UF6 handling and purification familiarity.
• Ability to obtain/maintain a DOE Q clearance with US citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Perform R&D activities related to pyrochemical reprocessing.
• Conduct fundamental and applied research.
• Collect/analyze test results; develop new testing methods.
• Assimilate and interpret experimental data.
• Present at conferences individually or with a team.
• Identify new opportunities; help generate technical proposals and funding.
• Develop process controls and tracking using programming.
• Prepare process flow diagrams and heat/material balances.
• Establish design/operating parameters via simulations, hazards analysis, testing.
• Monitor plant conditions; recommend maintenance and replacements.
