Job summary

Roche is seeking a Research Engineer II to advance DNA sequencing technologies in Santa Clara, CA. You will work on chemical engineering aspects for instrument prototypes and contribute to end-to-end sequencing workflows.

Ideal candidates have a degree in a life science or engineering field and 1–5 years of related experience. The role is onsite with a discretionary annual bonus opportunity and competitive compensation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a life science or engineering field; 1–5 years in life science R&D for Bachelor's, 0–4 years for Master's.
  • Experience with DNA sequencing workflows and molecular biology tools (PCR, gel electrophoresis).
  • Familiarity with analytical instruments and data interpretation.
  • Meticulous, proactive, and eager to learn in an R&D environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop orthogonal assays to measure system performance.
  • Operate instruments including breadboards and prototypes.
  • Test and optimize chemical formulations for DNA sequencing workflows.
  • Collect data, document observations, and present results to a broader audience.
  • Use analytical instrumentation to characterize chemicals and surfaces on prototype instruments.
  • Prepare experimental plans and reports; collaborate with scientists.
