Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT is seeking an engineer to support the VIRGINIA Class submarines and the first-of-a-kind VIRGINIA Payload Module (VPM). This role provides waterfront engineering for fluid-based ship systems during construction and testing, interfacing with trades, vendors, and program offices across Groton, Quonset Point, Newport News, and Focus Factory sites.

The successful candidate will investigate emergent issues, prepare technical dispositions, coordinate piping

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Systems Engineering, Fluids Engineering, or Chemical Engineering
  • 0-5 years of post-graduate Engineering experience

Responsibilities

  • Investigate emergent shipyard issues and generate technical dispositions in response to ERs/CNs/TIRs/UNSATs
  • Investigate vendor issues and generate dispositions in response to VIRs
  • Develop technical letters to NAVSEA to resolve long-term technical issues
  • Coordinate with design personnel on system piping modifications to minimize construction impact
  • Perform calculations to verify as-built design conditions (pipe sizing/thickness, flow balancing, thermal analysis)
  • Provide technical support to shipyard trades and test organizations for construction and test issues
  • Support Focus Factory and off-site contractors in outfitting ship modules
  • Periodic overtime may be required for emergent issues
