Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat seeks a Mechanical Engineer at Quonset Point to provide on-site leadership for mechanical operations during VIRGINIA Class construction. You will advise operations, interpret designs, and coordinate with SMEs and Navy representatives to resolve issues.

The role involves engaging with manufacturing, operations, and engineering teams while maintaining compliance and safety standards; a DoD secret clearance is preferred. On-site work at Quonset Point is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Structural, Marine, Ocean Engineering or Naval Architecture.
• 1–5 years of post‑graduate engineering experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD secret clearance.
• Proficient with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering oversight and assistance to operations personnel.
• Evaluate shipyard issues and develop technically acceptable resolutions.
• Interpret design, drawing and specification requirements.
• Coordinate engagement of SMEs in construction sequences as required.
• Answer VIRM issues related to EBQP work with vendor involvement.
• Perform engineering calculations for as‑built configurations.
• Surveil manufacturing, inspection and testing of trade work at Quonset Point.
• Interface with trade personnel and customer Navy representatives.
