Job summary

The Whitehead Institute's FACS core lab in Cambridge, MA, seeks a Technical Assistant I/II to oversee daily operations of the flow cytometry facility, maintaining instruments and providing high-quality service and training to investigators. Proficiency with BD FACSAria SORP and other cytometers is essential.

Responsibilities include instrument maintenance, quality control, troubleshooting, and assisting researchers with scheduling and usage.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology and 1-2 years of experience in a research laboratory.
• 1-2 years of experience in flow cytometry for Technical Assistant I, and 3-4 years for Technical Assistant II (cell sorting not required).
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Must be available to work flexible hours and work well independently.

Responsibilities

• Operate high-quality, high-speed cell sorting for researchers.
• Perform maintenance and data backups for instruments and software.
• Conduct daily quality control and monitor instrument performance.
• Troubleshoot sorters and related software/peripherals.
• Coordinate with vendor service engineers as needed.
• Log issues and report to core staff.
