Job summary

The City of North Port, FL is seeking a skilled Building Inspector to ensure compliance with Florida Building Code and local ordinances across residential, commercial and industrial projects. You will review plans, coordinates with the Chief Inspector, investigate violations, and prepare clear reports.

Applicants should have a high school diploma (or equivalent) and at least five years of inspector experience; DBPR license eligibility is required within six months of appointment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Five years as a Certified Building Inspector for government or private sector preferred.
  • Knowledge of means and methods in construction.
  • Strong customer service and written/spoken communication skills.
  • Proficient with small office equipment (copy machines, phones).
  • Proficient in data entry and using office software.

Responsibilities

  • Review building diagrams, blueprints, and plans for compliance with the Florida Building Code and local regulations.
  • Coordinate with Chief Inspector on field discrepancies.
  • Investigate complaints and assist with enforcement when needed.
  • Evaluate drawings and specifications; inspect structures under construction for code compliance.
  • Prepare reports and maintain inspection records; enter data and images in systems.
