Job summary

Ritsema Associates, a leading West Michigan contractor, is seeking a skilled Flooring Foreman to serve as the on-site leader for specific construction projects. You will supervise staff, coordinate materials and equipment, and ensure safety and quality in all activities on site.

This role requires hands-on leadership, clear communication with the superintendent, estimator, and PM, and a commitment to timely project completion.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to read tape measures and follow written/verbal instructions.
  • Basic math and measurement calculations are required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team with safety and quality in mind.
  • Experience with safety protocols and quality workmanship is required.
  • Provide and maintain personal hand tools; employer provides power and specialty tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily flooring operations to meet schedule and budget.
  • Attend startup meetings with superintendent and estimator/PM to review labor needs.
  • Conduct daily huddles and toolbox talks to set goals and track progress.
  • Record daily accomplishments and compare with plan to evaluate performance.
  • Manage labor needs and communicate changes to the superintendent.
  • Record labor hours and personnel assignments accurately.
  • Place timely orders for materials and equipment as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized job site and act as on-site contact with GC foreman/PM.
  • Resolve scheduling issues on-site and attend weekly progress meetings.

Compensation:

$25 – $35 per hour. Sign on bonus of $2000 included.

Purpose

We are seeking a skilled Flooring Foreman to serve as the on‑site leader overseeing and managing specific assigned construction projects. The Flooring Foreman is responsible for ensuring all work is completed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with project specifications and timelines. This role requires hands‑on leadership and effective coordination of various construction activities, including supervising staff, managing materials and equipment, and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead daily operations to ensure flooring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Attend project startup meetings with the superintendent and estimator/PM to review labor needs, special‑order items, and jobsite conditions.
  • Conduct daily huddles and toolbox talks to set goals, assign tasks, and track progress.
  • Record daily accomplishments and compare them to planned goals to evaluate team performance.
  • Manage labor needs proactively and communicate changes to the superintendent.
  • Accurately record all labor hours and personnel assignments.
  • Anticipate material and equipment needs and place timely orders through the office.
  • Maintain a clean and organized job site throughout the project.
  • Serve as the primary on‑site contact with the general contractor’s foreman or project manager.
  • Resolve scheduling issues directly on‑site when possible.
  • Attend weekly progress meetings and represent the company professionally.
  • Document all extra work and obtain signed field work orders or extra work sheets before beginning.
  • Track all equipment delivered to the site—company‑owned or rented—and ensure it is returned.
  • Periodically request and reconcile equipment inventory with actual on‑site assets.
  • Coordinate job closeout by organizing materials and equipment for pickup and scheduling a final walkthrough with the superintendent.
  • Proficient in the use of all flooring tools, mechanical tools, and sanding equipment.
  • Capable of completing new flooring installations and working collaboratively with team members.
  • Lead by example in professionalism, dependability, and safety practices.
Qualifications
  • Proficient in reading tape measures and using basic carpentry tools.
  • Basic math skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
  • Must provide and maintain personal hand tools (power and specialty tools provided by employer).
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs regularly.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, twisting, and climbing ladders.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in various weather conditions.
  • Must pass a pre‑employment physical and drug screen.
Travel Requirements
  • Reliable transportation required to travel between job sites
