Job summary

Ritsema Associates seeks an experienced Flooring Superintendent to oversee field operations across multiple flooring projects. This role leads foremen and crews, ensuring safety, efficiency, and high-quality results with daily travel between job sites.

The ideal candidate brings extensive flooring know-how, strong leadership, and the ability to read blueprints and construction documents. A high school diploma is required, with construction management training preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; construction management training preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial flooring materials and installation processes.
  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in commercial flooring.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support flooring project operations across multiple sites.
  • Lead and manage flooring foremen and field personnel.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Attend weekly superintendent meetings to coordinate manpower.
  • Participate in project start-up meetings with foremen, estimators and PMs.
  • Review plans and specifications prior to job start.
  • Coordinate procurement of long‑lead materials with estimators and PMs.
  • Assign foremen to projects based on scope and strengths.
  • Conduct regular job site visits for progress and safety checks.
  • Identify and report safety issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Review foremen’s logs and productivity reports; address challenges.
  • Inspect work quality and enforce corrective actions.
  • Oversee subcontractor buyouts, pay rates, scheduling, and invoices.
  • Submit weekly timesheets to payroll; attend closeout meetings.

Compensation

$75,000 - $85,000 annual salary

Purpose

We are seeking an experienced, dependable Flooring Superintendent to oversee field operations across multiple flooring projects. This position provides leadership to foremen and field crews, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to high‑quality standards. Daily travel between job sites is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support flooring project operations, including:
  • Lead and manage flooring foremen and field personnel across multiple job sites
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to quality expectations
  • Attend weekly superintendent meetings to coordinate manpower and assignments
  • Participate in project start-up meetings with foremen, estimators, and project managers
  • Review project plans, specifications, and allowances prior to job start
  • Coordinate procurement of long‑lead materials with estimators, project managers, and purchasers
  • Assign appropriate foremen to projects based on scope and team strengths
  • Conduct regular job site visits to monitor progress, safety compliance, and workmanship
  • Identify and report safety issues; recommend corrective actions as needed
  • Review foremen’s logbooks and productivity reports; address jobsite challenges or inefficiencies
  • Inspect work quality and ensure corrective measures are implemented
  • Oversee subcontractor buyouts, pay rates, scheduling, and invoice verification
  • Approve subcontractor payments after reviewing material quantities and job cards
  • Submit weekly timesheets to payroll
  • Attend project closeout meetings and contribute to post‑project evaluations
  • Maintain accurate documentation and communicate effectively with internal teams and clients
  • Represent the company professionally and courteously on all job sites
  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and proactively address performance issues
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned to support project success
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (additional construction management training preferred)
  • Must have an extensive knowledge of commercial flooring materials and installation processes
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in the commercial flooring industry
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • In‑depth knowledge of construction processes, safety standards, and quality control practices
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents
  • Problem‑solving mindset with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, stand, climb, and navigate active construction sites
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, and working in various environmental conditions (heat, cold, dust)
Travel Requirements
  • Daily travel between job sites is required.
