Job summary

Chimes is seeking a full-time Floor Technician at Library of Congress in Washington, DC to perform daily cleaning and floor maintenance. The role involves sweeping, mopping, carpet care, and using floor machines while following contract specifications and safety rules.

Strong attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision are important. Qualified candidates typically have a High School diploma or equivalent and at least six months of custodial or floor care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Follow contract specifications and agency policies.
  • Clean assigned areas per specifications and maintain floors.
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors; operate floor machines and cleaners.
  • Detail corners, edges, and equipment; remove trash as required.
  • Maintain and clean equipment; perform routine safety checks.

Performs manual labor associated with daily cleaning and all aspects of maintaining all floor surfaces.

Essential Functions:
  • Comply with all Agency policies and procedures and follow contract specifications
  • Comply with uniform dress code and personal hygiene standards
  • Clean all assigned areas in accordance with contract specifications
  • Sweep, dust mop, and damp mop floors
  • Use wet vacs and vacuums for carpets and tile
  • Detail corners and edges
  • Empty and clean machines after use
  • Move furniture/equipment to gain access to floors
  • Mix and measure chemicals
  • Prepare, use, and care for equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance check on equipment before and after use
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures when using any equipment
  • Strip, seal, wax, burnish, & buff floors; clean carpets as required
  • Use low speed and high speed rotary floor machines and ride on floor machines
  • Use scrubbers, burnishers, buffers, strippers, and extractors
  • Use wet vacs, carpet extractors, and carpet spotters
  • Removal trash in specific areas when required
  • Pass and comply with all building and security requirements and procedures
Secondary Functions:
  • Assist with inventory
  • Perform general custodial duties as needed
  • Clean and maintain equipment
  • Keep records and provide requested reports
  • Perform other duties and tasks as needed

Physical Abilities Needed to Meet Work Demands:
  • Ability to stand or walk continuously for long periods of time
  • Ability to go up and down stairs
  • Ability to reach above the head, bend, kneel, stoop
  • Ability to operate controls
  • Ability to lift, carry, and push up to 50 lbs. regularly and 75-100 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to work in dusty spaces or adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to see details on the floor or on surfaces

Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Knowledge of floor finishes, applications, and removals
  • Knowledge of floor care equipment
Experience:
  • Six months of Floor Technician experience preferred
  • Six months of Custodial experience
  • Candidates with disabilities preferred
