Job summary

The Buckle, Inc. is seeking a Leader in Training (LIT) and Floor Leader to support store leadership and deliver legendary guest service in Murfreesboro, TN.

You will perform sales, merchandising, and operations tasks, work with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit teammates, and model leadership. Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, retail exposure, and a passion for denim fashion.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; or 1–3 months of related retail experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests and deliver legendary service; answer questions about store and merchandise; assist guests in locating items and creating wardrobe solutions; lead by example in sales presentations and customer engagement.
  • Recruit, train, and develop new teammates; maintain positive floor culture; model professional dress and store standards; participate in daily setup and training activities.
  • Own visual merchandising and product knowledge; follow weekly checklists; communicate recommendations to store manager; conduct store tours and ensure clean, well-displayed floors.
  • Perform operations tasks: flexible scheduling, opening/closing checklists, loss prevention, POS procedures, handling returns and exchanges, and maintaining store environment.

Summary

The Leader in Training (LIT) and Floor Leader position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement: “To create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” As a LIT/Floor Leader you will perform a variety of sales, merchandising, and operational tasks assigned by store management such as cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities. You will work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates, and provide leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Sales Generation and Guest Service
  • Greet guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and consistently provide legendary service
  • Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise
  • Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on guest needs and desires
  • Anticipate and fulfill guest’s needs by suggesting additional items, creating a wardrobing experience
  • Demonstrate product knowledge and sales education, sharing that knowledge with the team
  • Maintain and share knowledge of current sales and promotions, payment and exchange policies, and security practices
  • Remain consistent on personal sales, and seek opportunities to impact teammates’ presentations with the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG)
  • Achieve personal sales‑per‑hour, average sales and total net sales goals set by Store Management
  • Provide legendary service throughout the store in the front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and the register area
  • Know exchange and return procedures and use them as show‑making opportunities
  • Use the Sales Presentation Guide daily to accomplish goals
  • Meet or exceed performance standards in all Buckle business builders and guest loyalty programs
  • Expand guest selection through inventory management, advanced product search, iPad apps, etc.
  • Build good guest relationships to develop client‑based business
  • Lead by example with show‑making, customer service and attentiveness
  • Recognize and communicate guest levels with the team
  • Ask business‑driven and show‑making questions to managers and teammates
  • Coach teammates to improve their sales presentation
  • Consistently perform leadership actions and maintain high standards, whether the manager is present
Teammate Recruiting, Training, and Development
  • Identify recruiting opportunities using Jobs & Careers cards, email referrals, and teammate recommendations
  • Develop skills and assist in leading, directing, motivating and educating new teammates to meet shift orientation, loss prevention and sales presentation standards
  • Maintain a positive floor culture with a positive attitude at all times
  • Demonstrate and coach personal dress code, latest fashion to teammates and team leaders
  • Participate effectively in daily setup, training, impact and review, utilizing the Performance Tracker
  • Motivate teammates to initiate and complete daily tasks
  • Show passion for denim show‑making and fit cards through teammates and guests
  • Create and develop results within a department and balance all visual merchandising actions during mid‑week checks
  • Demonstrate leadership actions during segments:
    • Be aware of guests and ensure they are being helped
    • Involve guests with product
    • Vocalize updates to fellow leaders and team
    • Collect guest names
    • Work cooperatively with gentleman’s side and lady’s side to benefit all teammates and guests
Visual Merchandise Management
  • Own and influence product through zone ownership: product knowledge, placement passion, preference
  • Follow weekly checklist and product lifecycle
  • Track results and recognize merchandising opportunities from freight to floor
  • Communicate recommendations and solutions to the Store Manager
  • Conduct informative store tours
  • Ensure sales floor is consistently sized and new freight is appropriately displayed
Operations
  • Work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, Thanksgiving and Christmas days as required
  • Utilize planner and complete opening and closing checklists
  • Identify and mitigate security risks and thefts
  • Follow loss prevention guidelines, including daily bag and purse checks
  • Teach all point‑of‑sale procedures
  • Handle corporate calls appropriately
  • Apply Buckle guidelines for returns and exchanges
  • Maintain a positive attitude dealing with guests or teammates
  • Execute policies regarding payments, exchanges and loss prevention practices
  • Navigate tools on the home page and provide guidance to non‑sales positions
  • Cover shifts when needed and maintain clean, organized store environment
  • Report merchandise handling concerns and policy violations timely to store manager, district manager or HR
  • Apply Buckle code of ethics and all policies, procedures, handbooks
Supervisory and Leadership
  • Comfortable in giving and receiving feedback
  • Supportive of leadership and promote personal and store growth
  • Maintain professional, mature and stable relationships with teammates
  • Fulfill mission statement with high service and positive team spirit
  • Accomplish special projects and other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related retail experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands

Standing, walking, handling, reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking or hearing regularly; lifting up to 50 lbs across the store; vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

Retail store setting with moderate noise levels.
