Job summary

Pro Action of Steuben and Yates, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Floating Teaching Assistant to support Head Start classrooms across Steuben and Yates Counties.

This full-time, 12-month role collaborates with lead teachers to provide a nurturing pre-kindergarten learning environment while ensuring compliance with Head Start standards and New York regulations. The position requires an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a CDA credential, plus strong organizational and communication

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or CDA required.
• Experience working with young children in an educational setting preferred.
• Strong organizational and basic math skills.
• Effective communication and language skills to understand and convey information.
• Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office (Excel), and office equipment.
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues and engage with diverse families.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and solve problems in standardized situations.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for regular travel within the service area.

Responsibilities

• Partner with lead teachers to plan and implement daily classroom activities for pre-kindergarten children.
• Support adherence to Head Start Performance Standards and NYS Day Care Regulations.
• Participate in weekly planning sessions, staff meetings, and required training.
• Ensure a safe, healthy, and inclusive classroom environment.
• Assist with classroom and program modifications as needed.
• Help manage classroom inventory and supplies.
• Observe and document children’s development, maintaining anecdotal records.
• Assist in utilizing the Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment tool at required checkpoints.
• Support the implementation of lesson plans and learning objectives as assigned by the teacher.
• Perform administrative and logistical tasks to support program operations and information management.
• Travel between classroom sites within Steuben and Yates Counties as needed.

• Effective communication and language skills to comprehend and convey information.
• Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office (Excel), and office equipment such as copiers, scanners, and fax machines.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and interact professionally with families from diverse backgrounds.
• Capability to follow written and oral instructions and solve problems in standardized situations.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for regular travel within the service area.

Compensation

$17–$18 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
