Job summary

Traverse City Area Public Schools is seeking a Floating Special Education Assistant at Westwoods Elementary School in Traverse City, Michigan. The role supports Special Education students in the classroom and other settings, reporting to the principal or designated teacher, with up to 6.5 hours per day.

Responsibilities include assisting students with academics, supporting in physical education and lunch, participating in meetings, and helping with behavior plans.

Qualifications

• Minimum education is a high school diploma.
• Experience with children is preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
• Ability to maintain records of student progress.
• Willingness to attend training and work with diverse students.

Responsibilities

• Assist special education students in regular and categorical classrooms.
• Support students in physical education, music, art, lunch and recess as needed.
• Attend planning meetings and IEPCs when requested.
• Assist with small and large group instruction and behavior plans.
• Accompany students on field trips and monitor behavior as directed.
