Job summary

Cherry Knoll Elementary School in Traverse City, part of the Traverse City Area Public Schools, seeks a Floating Special Education Assistant (Cognitively Impaired) for up to 7.0 hours per day. The role reports to the building principal and provides direct support to cognitively impaired students in the classroom and during activities.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: high school diploma (or equivalent).
• Experience working with children preferred.
• Ability to care for, supervise, and nurture children.
• Ability to follow directions and work independently.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with daily activities.

Responsibilities

• Assist cognitively impaired students with classroom participation and routines.
• Support instruction by adapting lessons and materials under teacher guidance.
• Assist during physical education, lunch, recess, and field trips as needed.
• Maintain classroom records and assist with attendance, behavior, and progress notes.
• Support with meetings (IEP/IEPC) and medication administration if needed.
