Job summary

TrulyHired seeks a Special Education Assistant (Float) for Silver Lake Elementary School. Reports to the principal with daily guidance from the assigned teacher. Provides support to students with academics, mobility, and daily activities in a dynamic classroom setting.

Responsibilities include assisting in various subject areas, attending planning meetings and IEPs, and helping with both direct and non-direct instruction. A high school diploma is required, with college credit preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum education requirement is a high school diploma; college credit or degree preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and courteous interactions with students and staff.
• Ability to care for and supervise children in school settings.
• Basic familiarity with computers and technology.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to follow directions and work independently.
• Experience maintaining records of student progress is a plus.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to resolve conflicts and maintain a safe classroom.
• Reliable and trustworthy with sensitive information.

Responsibilities

• Assists special education students with academics in regular education classrooms.
• Supports students in categorical classrooms and during meals, activities, and transitions.
• Assists with physical education, music, art, and field trips as needed.
• Participates in planning meetings and IEPs per request.
• Provides small group and large group non-direct instruction support.
• Assists with self-help tasks and daily living activities as required.
• Monitors student behavior according to plans and teacher guidance.
• Serves as witness for medication administration if requested.
• Maintains classroom records and adapts materials to student needs.
