Position Overview:
Join our dynamic and inclusive team at Landmark Preschool located in Westport, CT. In this role you will work as a floating assistant teacher supporting our preschool classrooms: 2’s, 3’s, 4’s and Fundamentals throughout the day and leading our afterschool team. The ideal candidate will be flexible, approachable, and have a positive attitude. This is a faculty position working during the academic year. Hours for this position are Monday - Friday 10am-5:30pm. In this role you will assist all our classrooms throughout the day by helping the head teacher implement planned activities and lesson plans while filling in as a sub or for breaks. You will work closely with other assistant teachers to care for students and help them with lessons and activities throughout the day. You must be able to effectively interact with students in our preschool program, using a variety of methods and use positive encouragement while supporting the mission of the school and the curriculum. During our aftercare program, you will take the lead in coordinating with all the aftercare classrooms to ensure that the aftercare program and schedule are implemented appropriately.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head Teacher by implementing the planned activities and lesson plans that support the children’s age-appropriate development.
- Prepare materials and classroom set-up for class activities and lessons.
- Use appropriate language, interactions, and positive discipline and models positive behavior.
- Actively participates in large and small group activities and provides assistance and support during specials.
- Engage and lead students in learning and play.
- Monitor children to ensure safety at all times.
- Supervise children appropriately, including monitoring children during indoor and outdoor recess.
- Maintains confidentiality of students and families and directs parent questions about students to the head teacher.
- Support the head teacher with set up/clean up of activities and follow their direction to provide classroom support as needed.
- Supervise Aftercare activities and staff.
- Follow Landmark Preschool’s policies and procedures.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree Prefered.
- At least 2 years of experience working with children; classroom experience a plus.
- Ability to work and move around with young, active children which includes regular bending, kneeling and stretching.
Hourly rate is based on experience, $23-25 per hour
