Job description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

As a member of the South Shore Stars teaching team, the Teacher Assistant helps ensure that each child’s developmental needs are met. The Teacher Assistant will substitute for Preschool Center Staff and provide classroom support and assistance as needed. This position is a Floating Teacher's Assistant, traveling between our Weymouth, Randolph, and Quincy Preschools, so reliable transportation is required. It is a full-time role primarily covering vacations, time off, and leaves of absences in our preschool and early childhood centers.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Work a flexible schedule to meet staffing requirements of the Center.
  2. Participate in implementing curriculum and classroom activities.
  3. Assist in organizing and maintaining classroom environment, equipment, and materials.
  4. Monitor children’s activities individually and in groups.
  5. Confer with other center staff regarding educational and social progress.
  6. Attend staff, team, and curriculum meetings, training, and supervision as required.
  7. Help organize and attend Center parent meetings and other Center events.
  8. Refer concerns expressed by parents to the appropriate teacher and share observations regarding parent-child interactions.
  9. Prepare breakfast and snacks.
  10. Perform all other assigned duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the developmental needs of children.
  • One year of experience working with young children.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule and fill in wherever needed.
  • Coursework in early childhood education is desirable.
  • Warm and nurturing personality.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift at least 40 lbs and work in a non-sedentary environment.
