Job summary

Mortongroveparks is seeking a Floating Preschool Aide to support the Preschool/Assistant Teacher across classes. The role includes planning activities, guiding children, and preparing lesson materials in a park district setting.

The position requires 18+, preschool experience preferred, and CPR/First Aid certification (or training). Hours vary by class and involve collaboration with the Recreation Supervisor and Parents.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning the program and activities for children.
• Initiate, interact and encourage children in activities throughout the day.
• Assist the Teacher in planning and preparing daily and weekly lesson plans.
• Use appropriate and positive discipline.
• Pass along observations regarding children’s health, behavior, and development.
• Arrive and depart on time.
• Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
• Assist in decorating bulletin boards.
• Maintain classroom supplies and complete work orders for setups.
• Keep the classroom clean and organized.
• May assist in other classrooms.
• Prepare the classroom before the school year and clean up after.
• Direct and assist parent helpers in preparing materials and classrooms.
• Supervise the use and care of park district supplies, equipment, and facilities.
• Establish and maintain good relationships with parents, staff, and the community.
• Submit accident reports for injuries and inform supervisor promptly.
• Submit timecard and payment requests timely.
• Maintain up-to-date student records including emergency information.

Floating Preschool Aide

The Floating Preschool Aide will act as support staff to the Preschool Teacher and/or assistant Teacher assisting whenever necessary.

Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age. Work experience in a preschool/ early childhood setting is preferred. Ability to work independently and creatively. CPR and first aid certifications required or will train. The hours vary depending on which class you substitute for.

Immediate Supervisor:

The Floating Preschool Aide is responsible to the Preschool Teacher and Recreation Supervisor.

Essential Functions:

1. To assist in the planning of the program and activities of the children.
2. Will initiate, interact and encourage children in a variety of activities throughout the day
3. Assist the Teacher in planning and preparing daily and weekly lesson plans. May be responsible for designing own lesson plan with the consent of the Teacher.
4. Uses appropriate and positive discipline.
5. Assist the Teacher by passing on observations regarding the children’s health, behavior, and development.
6. Arrive and depart on time.
7. Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
8. To assist the Teacher in designing and putting up decorations on bulletin boards.
9. To assist in maintaining classroom supplies. Complete work orders for special classroom set-ups (minimum 1 week in advance).
10. To assist in maintaining a clean and organized classroom.
11. May be asked to assist in other classrooms.
12. Prepare the classroom prior to the school year and clean up at the completion of the school year.
13. Direct and assist parent helpers in preparing materials and classroom for daily use.
14. Supervise the use and care of Park District supplies, equipment, and facilities.
15. Establish and maintain good working relationships with parents, recreation supervisor, co-workers, and the community.
16. Complete an Accident Report form for all injuries to children while in attendance at preschool and inform supervisor immediately.
17. Submit timecard and payment requests in timely manner.
18. Maintain up-to-date records on students including emergency information.

Psychological Considerations:

May need to resolve differences and problems that arise between children. May have to handle multiple tasks at one time, which may cause stress.

Physiological Considerations:

Occasional lifting of supplies, tables, chairs, equipment and/or other related materials. Expected to participate in group games and other activities that may require running and physical activity. Must have the ability to listen, hear and speak. Use of hands and fingers will regularly be required, and the ability to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time.

Environmental Considerations:

Activities are performed both indoors and outdoors, and conditions can include but are not limited to weather conditions and building maintenance.

Cognitive Considerations:

Must possess good safety awareness and judgment. Must be friendly and like to work with people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
