Job summary

Grand Central Bakery is seeking an Assistant Café Manager to support multiple Seattle-area cafés as a floating leader. The role emphasizes coaching, training, and seamless day-to-day operations to uphold our service standards.

You will supervise, train, and step in for the Café Manager as needed, ensuring excellent customer experiences while managing scheduling, safety, and cost goals. This position is union-represented under UFCW 3000.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Ability to read, write, and speak English
• Valid Food Handler's Card at all times and follows health department guidelines
• Must be able demonstrate regular attendance by coming to work on scheduled working days and being on time
• Basic math skills
• Two (2) or more years’ experience working in a café, restaurant, or coffee shop required. Leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Leads teams in delivering excellent customer service and promotes the 3 steps to great service.
• Acts as a visible leader with a positive presence and motivates the team to perform well.
• Assumes Café Manager responsibilities during their absence.
• Coaches in the moment and communicates coaching notes with the Café Manager.
• Troubleshoots across café operations and navigates problem solving.
• Communicates with cafe team and channels feedback to the Café Manager.
• Assists in hiring and trains new Café Team Members on menu, systems (POS, online ordering), and daily operations.
• Ensures food safety compliance and maintains quality standards.
• Maintains knowledge of menu items and shares it with customers and team.
• Proficient in POS system, cash handling, and daily café administration (PARS, orders, invoices, inventory).
• Manages daily scheduling, shift coverage, and payroll when Café Manager is unavailable.
• Maintains clean cafe environment and supports safety practices.
