Summary

We are continuously seeking outgoing and customer-service-minded people to join our team. Our branches have evolving needs for tellers, head tellers, and customer service representatives. Starting as a teller provides an ideal foundation and a gateway into back-end operations and lending. This is an in-office position.

Play a vital role as the face of the Bank, promoting products and services and assisting customers with transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, and cash advances.

Because Seamen’s Bank remains a relatively small Community Bank, it is expected that all employees will contribute above and beyond the duties that are listed in any job description or posting. In addition to the duties listed, employees are expected to perform any function necessary within the scope of expertise and authority to provide the highest level of customer service and to increase the productivity of the Bank. It is expected that all employees will continually strive to improve, especially in regard to security and compliance procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operational
  • Receive checks and cash for deposit, verify amount, and examine checks for endorsements; may place holds on accounts for uncollected funds.
  • Cash checks and pay out money within guidelines of “Check Cashing Policy.”
  • Balance all work performed and compare totals in teller system.
  • Maintain proper balance in teller drawer.
  • Assist in balancing the ATM.
Customer Service/Job Knowledge
  • Foster and maintain positive customer relationships.
  • Address and resolve customer questions and concerns.
  • Gain understanding of customers’ needs and recommend Bank products or services that will best meet their needs.
  • Grant access to safe deposit vaults following procedures.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of Seamen’s Bank products and services.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of Seamen’s Bank online banking/FCM.
  • Answer and successfully transfer external telephone calls.
Team Support and Professional Development
  • Support operation of the branch by being reliable and willing to take on new tasks as assigned.
  • Assist supervisors with onboarding, training, and mentoring new hires.
  • Participate in ongoing cross-training for various branch roles as needed to support effective and efficient operation of the branch.
  • Attend internal and external training seminars as necessary to maintain job knowledge and support own professional growth.
Security and Compliance
  • Maintain knowledge of and adhere to security protocols and controls.
  • Maintain knowledge of and adhere to bank policies and procedures.
Team Atmosphere and Community Engagement
  • Provide back-up or substitute coverage by floating to other branch locations as needed.
  • Foster a harmonious and team-oriented work environment.
  • Engage in activities fostering team spirit and community participation.
Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or General Educations (GED) and/or related job experience and steady work and/or education history
  • Necessary mathematical, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of teller functions
  • Understanding of branch policies and procedures
  • Strong customer service abilities and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to project a consistently positive and courteous demeanor in interactions with customers and colleagues
  • Professional work ethic, including attendance, and punctuality
  • Familiarity with bank products and services and online banking/FCM
  • Flexibility to work approximately two Saturdays per month as well as two Fridays for extended business operations
  • Valid United States driver’s license with reliable transportation to travel to any Seamen’s Bank location as needed for coverage
  • Availability to participate in branch, Bank, and community involvement outside of standard banking hours from time to time
