Qualifications

• BSN and NY RN License required.
• BCLS and ACLS certifications required.
• Experience in MICU, SICU, NSICU or stepdown units preferred.
• Float pool experience and collaborative care approach expected.

Responsibilities

• Conduct nursing assessment based on interview, examination, observation and review of records.
• Ensure patient progress is reflected in progress notes and revised care plans.
• Discharge planning aligned with patient status and inter-department communication.
• Communicate information to the patient based on readiness to learn.
• Support orientation of new staff as a preceptor and role model.
• Mentor students and volunteers in clinical settings.
• Assign patient care considering needs and staff skill level.
• Organize provision of care to meet priority needs of patients and unit.
• Communicate patient and unit status to leadership in the relevant discipline.
• Participate in the development of other staff members.
• Collaborate with peers on practice and self-improvement.
• Provide direction, assistance and support to the nursing team.
• Identify need for further staff education and communicate to leadership.
• Engage nursing leadership as resource persons and role models.
• Coordinate across disciplines to meet patient and unit needs.
• Align actions with the Department of Nursing and Hospital Center philosophy and family interactions.
