Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Float Pool Unit. The role provides front-line patient care under nursing supervision and supports more than 30 inpatient units, adapting quickly to census and acuity changes.

Responsibilities include routine data collection, reporting changes, responding to patient needs, and maintaining high safety and hygiene standards. Training and certifications such as BLS are required to ensure quality care.

Qualifications

• Education: HS diploma or equivalent; able to read and write in English.
• Familiarity with medical terminology.
• Working knowledge of basic computer software.
• Licenses: BLS certification required.
• CPI within 180 days.

Responsibilities

• Collects data (IO, weight, temperature, pulse, respirations, BP) and reports out-of-range values to the nurse.
• Reports any changes in a patient's condition to the nurse promptly.
• Responds to patient requests in a respectful, timely manner.
• Performs basic hygiene care and monitors skin; reports abnormalities.
• Conducts frequent rounds to assist with comfort, positioning, and hygiene.
• Documents patient information accurately in the chart.
• Transfers and transports patients safely per department policies.
• Greet patients and families; wear name tag; alert nurse if concerns arise.
