Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Patient Care Associate for the Mercy STL Ballas Campus. You will work nights (7pm-7am), with a full-time schedule of three 12-hour shifts per week, supporting patient care across units and participating in an accredited training pathway.

The role offers progression to PCT and beyond within a supportive hospital setting. Responsibilities include vital signs, patient assistance, and clerical support, with additional PCT tasks such as phlebotomy and wound care as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CNA/CPTC or current Mercy coworker.
• Currently enrolled in a healthcare program.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs and document in the EMR system.
• Assist with meals, bathing, toileting, ambulation, mobility and patient transport.
• Provide clerical support as needed.
• PCA duties include additional patient care tasks like phlebotomy, enteral feeding, wound care, IV/ Foley removal and tracheostomy care (as applicable).

Under the direction of the RN or LPN, assists in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the patients highest level of wellness. Work across all Critical Care and Med/Surg units, gaining experience with a variety of patient populations and care specialties. Typically a different unit each shift.

Position Details:

Patient Care Associate

Department: Float Pool - Mercy STL - Ballas Campus

Hours / Shift: Nights (7pm-7am) ONLY

Full Time - ( 3, 12 hour shifts per week)

Responsibilities for Patient Care Associate (PCA):

• Obtain vital signs and document in the electronic medical record system
• Assist with patient care needs, including:
  • Meals
  • Bathing
  • Toileting
  • Ambulation
  • Mobility assistance
  • Patient transport
• Provide clerical support as needed

Responsibilities for Patient Care Technician (PCT):

• Perform all PCA job duties
• Phlebotomy / blood cultures
• Enteral feeding
• Wound care
• IV / Foley removal
• Tracheostomy care & suctioning

Training

• Our Patient Care Associate Training Program is an accredited Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program
• Gain hands-on experience in a supportive healthcare environment

No Experience? No Problem!

• Mercy provides a required 175-hour training program that meets Department of Health and Senior Services requirements
• Training is completed during new hire orientation and must be finished within 90 days

Certifications Requirements:

• BLS required within 1 month of hire
• PCA competencies completed within 3 months of hire

Qualifications

Education:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• CNA/CPTC or
• Currently enrolled in a healthcare program
• OR current Mercy co-worker

Experience:

• None required

Physical Requirements

• Ability to push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds regularly
• Prolonged standing and walking during shifts
• Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat
