Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Patient Care Associate (PCA) for the Ballas Campus Float Pool. This role supports patient care under RN/LPN direction, with duties including vital signs, hygiene, mobility, meals, and transportation.

Training is provided through Mercy's apprenticeship program. The position offers growth to Patient Care Technician (PCT) with opportunities to gain experience in phlebotomy, wound care, and IV removal, while participating in a supportive team that values safety and patient

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CNA/CPTC or currently enrolled in a healthcare program preferred.
• Mercy co-worker current status is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs and document in the EMR system.
• Assist with patient care needs: meals, bathing, toileting, ambulation, mobility, patient transport.
• Provide clerical support as needed.
• Perform PCA duties and support PCT responsibilities such as phlebotomy, wound care and IV removal.

Position Details

Patient Care Associate

Department: Float Pool - Mercy STL - Ballas Campus

Hours / Shift: Days (7 am -7pm) Nights (7pm-7am)

PRN - ( 3, 12 hour shifts in a 6 week period) you can pick up as many shifts as you would like.

Job Duties

Responsibilities For Patient Care Associate (PCA)

• Obtain vital signs and document in the electronic medical record system
• Assist with patient care needs, including:
• Meals
• Bathing
• Toileting
• Ambulation
• Mobility assistance
• Patient transport
• Provide clerical support as needed

Responsibilities For Patient Care Technician (PCT)

• Perform all PCA job duties
• Phlebotomy / blood cultures
• Enteral feeding
• Wound care
• IV / Foley removal
• Tracheostomy care & suctioning

Training

• Our Patient Care Associate Training Program is an accredited Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program
• Gain hands-on experience in a supportive healthcare environment

No Experience? No Problem!

• Mercy provides a required 175-hour training program that meets Department of Health and Senior Services requirements
• Training is completed during new hire orientation and must be finished within 90 days

Certifications Requirements

• BLS required within 1 month of hire
• PCA competencies completed within 3 months of hire

Qualifications

Education:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• CNA/CPTC or
• Currently enrolled in a healthcare program
• OR current Mercy co-worker

Experience

• None required

Physical Requirements

• Ability to push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds regularly
• Prolonged standing and walking during shifts
• Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat
