The position requires performing venipuncture, labeling specimens, and maintaining accurate patient and test information. You will float to locations around the Austin area, with mileage reimbursed and a potential for permanent placement. A valid phlebotomy certification and a minimum of 6 months of experience are required, along with a clean driving record and reliable

Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states.
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED

Responsibilities

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Explains the venipuncture process clearly and courteous, demonstrates technique using straight needles or butterfly needles.
• Fully understands all physicians' orders.
• Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Store specimen samples according to required temperature and transport to maintain integrity; follow OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
