Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Float Patient Care Technician to join our patient-centered team in Illinois. The role supports RNs by providing basic nursing care, monitoring vital signs and assisting with daily living activities to ensure patient comfort.

The schedule is three 12-hour shifts per week, 7a-7:30p, with every other weekend and rotating holidays required. The position requires high school diploma or equivalent, CNA/CMA/EMT certification or nursing student with clinical rotation,

Qualifications

• Basic patient care activities under RN supervision.
• Completion of one clinical rotation or CNA/CMA/EMT certification required.
• CPR – Basic Life Support (AHA) required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor vital signs, take blood glucose, and record intake and output.
• Assist patients with bathing, grooming and eating.
• Report abnormal findings to nursing staff promptly.
• Keep patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Prioritize tasks and multitask under unit needs.
• Serve as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Communicate with staff and families via phone/intercom politely.
• Assist with census, admissions, and discharges as needed.
