Job summary

LEAP is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer - Flight in Broomfield, CO to lead the design and development of flight hardware, from 3D CAD models to fabrication drawings, with emphasis on lightweight, robust, and manufacturable solutions.

You will own major assemblies, mentor engineers, and collaborate across structures, propulsion, avionics, and manufacturing to ensure successful flight outcomes, while maintaining CAD integrity, BOMs, and GD&T standards.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of mechanical design experience for high-performance systems.
• Ownership of major assemblies from concept through flight.
• Experience leading small to mid-size technical teams.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (NX) and GD&T.
• Experience with FEA and hand calculations for flight-critical hardware.
• Knowledge of lightweight aerospace design and fabrication techniques (welding, machining, additive).
• Familiarity with PLM (Teamcenter) and configuration management.

Responsibilities

• Own complex major flight assemblies from concept through release.
• Lead a mechanical team of 4–10 engineers.
• Collaborate with structures, propulsion, avionics, and manufacturing.
• Produce flight-ready drawings, BOMs, and GD&T documentation.
• Maintain CAD data, BOMs, and revision histories in PLM.
