Job summary

Muon Space in San Jose, CA, seeks a Mechanical Engineer II to design and build hardware for Solar & Deployables. You will own components from CAD to flight, releasing designs and prototyping through test.

This is a hands-on role with a fast build-test-learn loop, supporting production from prototype to constellation-scale hardware. The role is hybrid and requires working on-site three days per week in San Jose, CA, with opportunities to contribute across test campaigns, analysis, and

Qualifications

• Requires 5+ years designing mechanical hardware and hardware release.
• Strong CAD skills with a bias toward learning through hardware.
• Experience with drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and tolerance stacks.

Responsibilities

• Design components and assemblies for solar arrays and deployables from concept to release.
• Produce engineering docs: drawings, GD&T, BOMs under config control.
• Build and test prototypes to evaluate concepts and reduce risk.
• Support test campaigns including deployment testing and environmental tests.
• Perform first-order analysis and collaborate on FEA with analysts.
• Create test fixtures and tooling for repeatable hardware builds.
• Coordinate with vendors on fabrication and build instructions.
• Present work in design reviews and incorporate feedback.
