Southern Illinois University Carbondale seeks applicants for flight instructor positions at the rank of Assistant Instructor in the Aviation Flight program. This is a term, non-tenure track faculty appointment and the first review begins March 20, 2026.

Instructors provide flight instruction and support to aviation courses on the SIU Carbondale campus. Minimum qualifications include FAA Commercial Pilot with Instrument Rating and CFI; a bachelor's degree or CFII within four months, or 50 hours

Qualifications

• Flight instructors must provide individual flight instruction and maintain training records.
• Assist faculty in teaching courses leading to FAA certificates and ratings.
• Adhere to university, FAA, accreditation and other policies.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual flight instruction to Aviation Flight students, including preflight/post-flight inspections and record-keeping.
• Assist faculty in teaching aeronautical and aircraft systems classes to FAA certificates and ratings.
• Adhere to university, FAA, accreditation, and bargaining policies and procedures.
