Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Flight Dynamicist in San Diego to develop and analyze 3DOF/6DOF flight dynamics models, perform trajectory design and optimization for hypersonic and space systems, and design GNC algorithms. You will build high-fidelity simulations and work across disciplines to translate requirements into executable vehicle designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required in a relevant engineering discipline (ABET-accredited).
• 8–10 years in flight dynamics, trajectory analysis, mission design, GNC, or related aerospace fields.
• Experience developing and analyzing 3DOF/6DOF simulations.
• Strong grasp of flight/orbital mechanics, trajectory optimization, and vehicle performance.
• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, STK, GMAT, FORTRAN, C/C++, or similar.

Responsibilities

• Develop and analyze 3DOF and 6DOF flight dynamics models for vehicle performance across the flight envelope.
• Design trajectory optimization and trade studies for hypersonic/missile/space systems.
• Design, implement, and validate GNC algorithms including autopilot and terminal guidance functions.
• Create high-fidelity simulations and digital engineering models for concept design and verification.
• Conduct analyses on aerodynamic, propulsion, mass properties, and environmental factors.
