Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Texas seeks an experienced Flexographic Press Operator for the 3rd shift (Mon-Thu, 6pm-4am). You will set up, adjust, and operate a Mark Andy press, perform semi-complex tasks, troubleshoot malfunctions, and ensure safety and quality in production.

Applicants must have at least three years of press experience, ability to read and interpret documents, basic math skills, and PC proficiency for records and communication.

Qualifications

• Three years’ experience as press operator or trainee.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and manuals.
• Basic math skills including percentages.
• Proficient PC skills for email, records, and spreadsheets.
• Ability to operate a fax and copy machine and communicate with customers.
• Willingness to work overtime when needed.

Responsibilities

• Sets up, adjusts, and operates a flexographic Mark Andy press.
• Performs semi-complex tasks where quality impacts costs.
• Locates and corrects machine malfunctions.
• Cleans, lubricates, and maintains equipment.
• Notifies supervision of repairs or replacement parts.
• Delivers finished material to proper manufacturing areas.

• Supports LEAN and ISO processes and continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Sets up, adjusts, and operates a flexographic Mark Andy press.
• Performs a variety of semi-complex or critical tasks where overall quality and/or quantity can seriously affect various manufacturing operations or costs.
• Locates and corrects machine malfunctions.
• Cleans, lubricates, and makes minor adjustments to maintain quality of production.
• Notifies supervision of needed repairs or replacement parts.
• Delivers finished material to proper manufacturing areas as required.
• Ensures that assigned equipment is properly maintained and in safe operating condition.
• Assists with other printing processes as needed and as directed by supervision.
• Assists in training individuals and other team members as assigned.
• Understands all documents pertaining to the printing process and adheres to specification requirements.
• Complies with company policies, procedures, and core processes.
• Complies with established safety procedures and policies with the intent of maintaining a safe working environment.
• Supports ISO 14001 certification effort.
• Keeps area clean and orderly.
• Supports, understands, and adheres to LEAN Principles and Rules by identifying, evaluating, and resolving problems.
• Focuses on continuous improvement, quality, improved cycle times, safety, cost reductions, and customer satisfaction.
• Works with other departments and maintenance personnel on projects and validations.
• Performs other job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have three years’ experience as press operator or operator trainee.
• Must have the ability to write and read simple instructions and effectively present information to others.
• Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Must have basic mathematical skills including the ability to calculate sums, differences, and percentages.
• Must have proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, etc.
• Must have the ability to operate a fax and copy machine.
• Must have the ability to answer the telephone and provide information/assistance to customers.
• Must have the ability to establish, maintain, and retrieve permanent files.
• Must have proficient skills in the use of hand tools.
• Must be able to maintain good attendance.
• Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
• Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.
