Job summary

Smurfit Westrock, based in Mebane, NC, is hiring an Assistant Press Operator for night shift (7PM–7AM). The role involves reviewing tickets, loading ink, mounting plates, and running the press while ensuring quality and color accuracy.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Review job ticket with 1st Press Person to determine sheet size, quantity and colors.
• Ensure ink specs match job ticket with assistance from 1st Press Person.
• Adjust printing units for proper sheet size and alignment.
• Mount plates in press with or without 1st Press Operator; load feeder correctly and start press.
• Continuously check job quality and color registration to meet specs.
• Complete production and quality reports with 1st Press Operator as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or Lead Person.

The Opportunity

• Review job ticket with 1st Press Person to determine, size, quantity of sheets required and colors.
• With assistance from 1st Press Person ensures that the ink supplied matches the ink specs on job ticket.
• Adjust printing units for proper sheet size.
• Mounts plates in press, either alone or with 1st Press Operator, in press, ink’s press, and ensures feeder is loaded properly and then begins to run the press.
• Continually checks quality and registration of work as directed to ensure that customer specs are met.
• Completes necessary production and quality reports with 1st Press Operator as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Manager, Supervisor and/or Lead Person.

What You Need To Succeed

• Lift up to 25 lbs. regularly, up to 50 lbs intermittently and up to 75 lbs rarely.
• Ability to work in a tobacco-free environment
• Stand up to 12 hours per day.
• Bend, twist, climb, squat, kneel occasionally throughout the shift.
• Uses hands for simple and power grasping, as well as push, pull and fine manipulation.
• Work at and/or below shoulder level.
• See fine detail in printed product along with checking for color accuracy.
• See color and distinguish color differences.
• Previous offset printing press experience is required.
• Attention to detail.
• Communication skills
• Must work in a hot, cold, dusty and noisy industrial environment
• Must wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (safety glasses, ear plugs, hair nets, steel-toed boots, etc.)
• Must maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations
