Job summary

Archdiocese of St. Louis seeks a Substitute Teacher to provide instruction and supervision in the absence of the regular teacher, following lesson plans and maintaining a safe, respectful learning environment.

This role supports the Catholic identity and mission of the school, with responsibilities including attendance, class management, and communication with staff. A high school diploma is required, and background screening is completed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework preferred.
• Valid substitute teaching license/permit if required by state or diocese.
• Background screening and safety training may be required.

Responsibilities

• Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the regular teacher.
• Deliver instruction and assist students with assigned coursework and activities.
• Maintain classroom routines, expectations, and appropriate student behavior.
• Take attendance and complete required classroom documentation.
• Provide supervision during class, transitions, lunch, recess, dismissal, and other assigned activities.
• Adapt to different subjects, classrooms, grade levels, and student needs.
• Encourage student participation and provide appropriate guidance and support.
• Communicate student concerns, incidents, and relevant classroom information to school administration or the regular teacher.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly classroom environment.
• Support the Catholic identity and mission of the school, including prayer, religious instruction, and faith-based activities as appropriate.
• Follow all school policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student and school information.
