Job summary

ServiceNow is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to shape the AI-native developer platform in Santa Clara. You’ll design scalable backend services, tooling, and AI-powered workflows integrated into the software development lifecycle.

Lead architecture discussions, mentor engineers, and drive high-quality, observable systems while delivering reusable platform services for multiple teams across the organization.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency with Java and modern backend development.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices architectures.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deliver high-quality, scalable software using industry best practices for architecture, code quality, testing, and operational excellence.
• Build AI-native developer experiences that help engineers create, test, deploy, and operate applications more efficiently.
• Partner closely with product managers, architects, and engineering teams to understand requirements and drive solutions from concept through production.
• Design and develop reusable platform services, APIs, and frameworks that can be leveraged across multiple engineering organizations.
• Leverage AI technologies to streamline software development workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and improve developer productivity.
• Build modern, responsive user experiences using contemporary frontend frameworks.
• Act as a technical leader by driving architecture discussions, mentoring engineers, and influencing engineering best practices.
• Continuously improve platform reliability, scalability, performance, and observability.
• Evaluate and adopt emerging AI technologies, tools, and development patterns that enhance engineering effectiveness.
