Job summary

Independent School District 196 is seeking substitute nurses (LPNs or RNs) to provide health services for students across Kindergarten through 12th grade. The role offers flexible days and a supportive work environment in a Minnesota public school district.

The primary responsibilities include administering medications and treatments, managing student and staff illnesses, and acting as a liaison between home and school regarding health concerns.

Qualifications

• Hold current Minnesota State license as a Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse.
• Current CPR certification.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Knowledge of practices for common childhood illnesses and chronic diseases (asthma, diabetes, insulin therapy, seizures, COVID-19 protocols).
• Ability to perform skilled nursing care (catheterization, suctioning, gastrostomy tube feedings, insulin administration, insulin pumps, nebulizer treatments).
• Experience with diverse school communities is preferred.
• Proficient with the Electronic Health Record.

Responsibilities

• Administers medications and treatments as ordered.
• Provides care for student and staff illness and accidents.
• Administers care based on health care and emergency care plans.
• Serves as liaison between home and school regarding student health concerns.
• Documents all encounters in the Electronic Health Record.
• Follows disease control procedures and informs administration/parents about school exclusion and readmission.
