Job summary

American Family Care is seeking a PRN Medical Assistant to support our corporate urgent care centers across CT. You’ll blend clinical skills with front desk tasks to assist with patient care and insurance verification.

We offer flexible scheduling, a minimum of four shifts per month, and a collaborative team environment. Ideal candidates have MA certification, 1+ year of experience, and strong patient engagement.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) at hire.
• At least 1+ year of experience with insurance verification and patient registration.
• Active BLS certification required or must be obtained within onboarding period.
• Urgent care or emergency room experience highly valued.
• EMR proficiency (Experity preferred); comfort with payer portals (Waystar).
• Proven venipuncture and specimen collection skills.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Care: greet and triage patients, collect vitals/histories, venipuncture, and CLIA-waived tests.
• Insurance Verification & Front Desk: register patients, verify eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays.
• Patient Service: educate on procedures and financial expectations, provide discharge instructions empathetically.
• Team & Compliance: participate in daily huddles, maintain compliance logs, support HIPAA standards.
