Job summary

American Family Care is seeking a PRN Medical Assistant to blend clinical tasks with front desk responsibilities in urgent care centers. You will greet, triage, collect vitals, perform venipuncture and CLIA-waived tests, while handling patient registration and insurance verification.

The role offers flexible scheduling, part-time hours, and opportunities to pick up more shifts as needed. Experience in urgent care and EMR proficiency are valued assets.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) at hire.
• At least 1+ year of experience with insurance verification and patient registration.
• Active BLS certification required or obtained during onboarding period.
• Urgent care or emergency room experience highly valued.
• EMR proficiency (Experity preferred); comfort with payer portals (Waystar).
• Proven venipuncture and specimen collection skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet and triage patients, collect vitals/histories, venipuncture and CLIA-waived tests, assist with minor procedures.
• Register patients, verify insurance eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays, reconcile logs, and maintain EMR accuracy.
• Educate patients on procedures and financial expectations, provide discharge instructions, and de-escalate concerns with empathy and professionalism.
• Participate in daily huddles, maintain compliance logs, support infection‑control and HIPAA standards.
