Job summary

American Baptist Homes of the Midwest Chariton, IA is hiring a Direct Support Professional (DSP) for a part-time float position with a flexible daytime schedule. Compensation is $17.00 per hour.

As a DSP, you’ll assist residents with daily living activities, support independence, and collaborate with healthcare professionals. No healthcare experience required; paid training; opportunities across shifts; 15–29 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance required.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Previous medical, caregiving, healthcare, DSP, CNA, PCA, or related experience preferred but not required.
• Dependable, compassionate, patient, and detail-oriented.
• Ability to adapt to different environments and build positive relationships with residents and team members.

Responsibilities

• Assist residents with daily living activities including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and meal preparation.
• Encourage independence while providing respectful, person-centered support.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming living environment.
• Monitor and report changes in residents' health, behaviors, or overall well-being.
• Assist with transportation to appointments, community outings, and activities.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals and team members to provide comprehensive support.
• Step in where needed as a float DSP to support residents and teams across the program.
