Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an accredited therapy program.
• Experience: 2–3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Licenses/Certifications: Current Occupational Therapy Assistant state license; CPR certification.
• Excellent verbal & written communication, active listening, and social/cultural perceptiveness
• Relationship building, compassionate instruction, and genuine appreciation for individuality and diverse life experiences
• Critical thinking, sound judgment, and decision-making
• Time management and service orientation
• Collaborative teamwork

Responsibilities

• Provides services under the direction of a licensed occupational therapist, collaborating with the care team.
• Follows treatment plans by teaching techniques such as moving from bed to wheelchair and stretching muscles.
• Evaluates residents' living skills and goals beyond diagnosis.
• Assists in selecting activities and developing plans to help residents function independently.
• Builds trust-based relationships with residents and families in a welcoming environment.
• Observes and records patient progress, and recommends changes to treatment plans.
• Instructs residents and families on home programs and use of adaptive equipment.
• Performs routine tasks such as stretches and teaching use of equipment.
• Uses lifts or pulleys to move residents safely.
• Documents patient care according to facility procedures.
• Collaborates with team to foster an inclusive workplace culture.
