Job summary

Macon County R-1 School District is seeking a Substitute Custodian to support custodial staff on an as-needed basis in Macon, Missouri. This role involves evening coverage and flexible hours to meet district needs.

Responsibilities include cleaning classrooms, restrooms, and common areas, restocking supplies, and maintaining safe facilities. Prior custodial experience is preferred but not required; background checks are required for employment. Employment is on an as-needed basis.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous custodial or cleaning experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
• Must be dependable and willing to work flexible hours as needed.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and conduct oneself professionally in a school environment.
• Must meet all District employment requirements, including required background checks.

Responsibilities

• Perform general custodial duties to maintain clean, safe, and sanitary school facilities.
• Sweep, dust mop, wet mop, vacuum, and clean floors.
• Clean and disinfect classrooms, offices, hallways, common areas, and other assigned spaces.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, floors, and fixtures.
• Empty trash and recycling containers and replace liners.
• Clean doors, windows, glass, drinking fountains, and other surfaces as needed.
• Restock restroom and custodial supplies, including toilet paper, paper towels, and soap.
• Assist with cleaning cafeterias, gymnasiums, locker rooms, and other areas as assigned.
• Set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for school activities and special events when needed.
• Properly use and maintain custodial equipment, tools, and cleaning products.
• Follow all District safety procedures and manufacturer instructions when using cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Secure assigned areas by checking doors, windows, and lights at the end of the shift when directed.
• Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damaged equipment, or other facility issues to the appropriate supervisor.
• Perform other custodial and facility-related duties as assigned.
