Job summary

Montana State University - Office of Student Engagement is seeking FLEX Academic Advisors to support students across disciplines. These pooled, on-site roles require collaboration with Advising Commons to address advising needs and cover critical times.

Positions are campus-based with no remote work eligibility. Ideal candidates bring a bachelor’s degree, strong interpersonal skills, and experience advising diverse student populations; Master’s degree and knowledge of advising software are

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working one-on-one and in small groups with students or clients with the ability to build rapport with a diverse group of constituents.
  • Demonstrated competence working in fast-paced environments while maintaining a positive and professional attitude.
  • Demonstrated competence maintaining records with a high degree of accuracy and close attention to detail.
  • Master’s degree preferred for Academic Advisor II.
  • Experience with advising and registration programs and software.
  • Knowledge of DegreeWorks, EAB Navigate, Banner, and relational databases.

Responsibilities

  • Provide holistic academic advising for students focused on classes, program options, majors, and goals.
  • Participate in orientations and new student programming.
  • Communicate complex information clearly to students and stakeholders.
  • Refer students to campus and community resources.
  • Conduct outreach to assist with advising, registration, and retention efforts.
  • Collaborate with campus partners and maintain open communication with colleagues.
  • Utilize advising and registration software and document advising interactions.
