Job Description

Position Title: Flex Machine Operator - Production

Supervisor: Production Supervisor

Job Summary: Set up and operate various pieces of equipment in the production area. Follow work order instructions closely to ensure a quality product is produced. Read and follow work order instructions, completing tasks based on assigned priorities. Operate production equipment following safe work procedures. The employee should be willing and capable of running multiple pieces of equipment and working where most needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform all procedures efficiently while observing safety rules.
  • Read and understand work orders and perform quality control procedures.
  • Set up and operate equipment following Standard Operating Procedures, and suggest improvements.
  • Operate machines in the Press Department (e.g., IS300, Stream, MICR) and inserting department (e.g., FPS, MPS inserters, folders, DRS software).
  • Verify that components match work order samples and instructions, ensuring sufficient supplies.
  • Obtain Lead/QC signoff and output samples before processing orders.
  • Verify materials when opening new cartons.
  • Match output to sign-off samples to ensure accuracy throughout the order.
  • Monitor inserters for doubles, miss-feeds, proper sealing, and fold quality.
  • Check print quality, including barcodes, placement, and streaks.
  • Troubleshoot machines and seek assistance promptly.
  • Report issues that may delay processing and suggest solutions.
  • Ensure job totals match work order instructions and DRS summaries before releasing orders.
  • Complete daily paperwork accurately.
  • Clear leftover materials after each order and before starting a new one.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Notify supervisor when tasks are completed.
  • Avoid unnecessary downtime.
  • Perform daily machine maintenance.
  • Assist in other departments and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Report injuries immediately.
  • Comply with company policies (e.g., Attendance, Code of Conduct, Employee Handbook).

Minimum (Required) Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Punctuality and adherence to work hours required.
  • May require ongoing education or training.
  • Reliable transportation needed.
  • Must be reachable in emergencies and for unscheduled absences.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Related work experience is a plus; training is available for selected applicants.

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to read, understand, and write in English.
  • Effective speaking skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to interact well with various personalities and levels.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform basic math operations and calculate rates and percentages.

Physical Requirements:

Regularly use tools, stand, walk, reach, climb, balance, talk, and hear. Frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity needed for close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment:

Exposure to moving equipment and loud noise levels. Climate-controlled facility.

Work Hours:

Full-time, with varying schedules including possible shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays based on customer needs.
