Job summary

Royal Ambulance in San Francisco seeks an experienced Major Repair Specialist – Senior Fleet Technician to handle complex mechanical repairs and keep our ambulance fleet safe, reliable, and mission-ready. Base location is San Francisco, focusing on high-level repairs currently outsourced to third-party vendors.

The role requires 5+ years of automotive mechanic experience with engines and transmissions, Ford Transit/E-350/E-450 experience, and tools of the trade.

Qualifications

• 5+ years automotive mechanic experience with engine and transmission removal/installation.
• Experience with Ford Transit, E-350, and E-450 vehicles.
• Clean driving record and own tools.
• Basic computer skills for maintenance tracking.

Responsibilities

• Remove and replace engines and transmissions
• Perform full cooling system repairs including radiators, hoses, and water pumps
• Complete internal engine repairs including head gaskets and timing components
• Perform major suspension and chassis repairs as needed
• Support Journeyman Technicians on complex repairs
• Perform gurney preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs
• Adjust or replace antler rails and lock bars

This role is ideal for a highly skilled technician with strong engine, transmission, and diagnostic experience who enjoys tackling major repair work in-house.

You’ll be based in San Francisco and focus on high-level repairs that are currently outsourced to third-party vendors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Remove and replace engines and transmissions
• Perform full cooling system repairs including radiators, hoses, and water pumps
• Complete internal engine repairs including head gaskets and timing components
• Perform major suspension and chassis repairs as needed
• Support Journeyman Technicians on complex repairs
• Perform gurney preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs
• Adjust or replace antler rails and lock bars

What We’re Looking For:

• 5+ years of automotive mechanic experience with engine and transmission removal/installation
• Extensive experience with Ford Transit, Ford E-350, and Ford E-450 vehicles
• Clean driving record
• Own tools for major mechanical repair work
• Basic computer skills for maintenance tracking

Preferred:

• Ford Factory certifications or willingness to obtain them
• ASE Certifications
• Diagnostic software experience
• Ambulance, emergency vehicle, or medical equipment experience
