Job summary

The City of Surprise is seeking a skilled technician to perform journey‑level repairs and maintenance on a wide range of automotive and heavy equipment. The incumbent will assist Fleet Technicians III with fire pumpers and special apparatus and mentor Fleet Technicians I on solid waste vehicles, construction gear, bucket trucks, and other heavy‑duty applications.

Required are a high school diploma or GED and substantial journey‑level experience, plus a valid CDL Class B or higher and EPA 609

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 4 years journey-level repair/maintenance of light or heavy-duty vehicles.
• Alternatively, 2 years journey-level experience with an accredited automotive or diesel training program.

Responsibilities

• Perform journey-level repair and maintenance on automotive, small equipment, and heavy‑duty trucks.
• Assist Fleet Technicians III with fire pumpers and special apparatus equipment.
• Mentor Fleet Technicians I on solid waste vehicles, construction equipment, bucket trucks, and other heavy‑duty applications.
