Job summary

The City of Gainesville is seeking a skilled Fleet Technician to join the Transportation: Fleet Operations. This journey-level role focuses on complex repairs and preventive maintenance for city vehicles and equipment under supervision.

You will work in the field and shop, performing advanced mechanical tasks. Candidates should have a high school diploma with automotive training and at least five years’ experience; CDL and ASE certifications are required or pursued as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with automotive technology courses and 5 years of experience.
• Municipal fleet experience appreciated, including public safety fleets.
• Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing motor vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintains engines, transmissions, hydraulics, A/C, electrical systems per manufacturers’ recommendations.
• Provides roadside assistance and emergency repairs.
• Performs road tests and checks before/after repairs and services.
