Job summary

The City of Gainesville seeks an experienced mechanic to perform preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs on City vehicles and equipment, including gasoline and diesel engines and hydraulic systems. You will inspect, diagnose, and overhaul a wide range of machinery and perform road-side repairs as needed.

Two years of skilled mechanic experience and a high school diploma with automotive training are required, along with a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Two years of responsible experience performing skilled mechanic work in the servicing and repair of vehicles and equipment.
• Driver's license is required.
• ASE Certification is preferred but not required; ability to obtain certification when requested by supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose and locate mechanical difficulties in City-owned vehicles and equipment; overhaul automotive and related equipment.
• Replace and repair faulty parts and determine repairs beyond shop capabilities with supervisor approval.
• Perform preventive maintenance and vehicle service activities.
• Repair engines, transmissions, differentials and clutches on various equipment.
• Maintain shop cleanliness and assist with parts and supplies as needed.
• Perform road-side repairs as required.
