Job summary

Darling Ingredients Inc. is seeking a Mechanic 1 to perform routine maintenance and basic repairs on trailers, diesel and gasoline powered vehicles, and plant equipment. The role develops core competencies under supervision as part of a broader fleet team.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, inspections, tool usage, and documentation, with travel for training as needed and opportunities to grow into higher mechanic levels.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1+ year experience in vehicle maintenance or related technical field.
• Valid driver's license and basic tool set.
• Basic understanding of diesel and gasoline engines.
• Experience with fleet software and basic computer tasks.
• Detail oriented and highly organized.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on fleet and plant equipment.
• Inspect vehicles, replace belts, hoses, batteries and lights as needed.
• Document work performed and parts used in logs or fleet systems.
• Assist in diagnosing mechanical issues with basic tools.
• Support senior mechanics and respond to roadside service calls when required.
