Job summary

Salt Lake County is seeking a skilled fleet mechanic to operate and maintain a variety of heavy equipment and fuel trucks at the Salt Lake County Landfill. The role emphasizes hands-on repair of gas, diesel, CNG, and electric systems, with CDL/Tanker endorsement required or to be obtained shortly after hire.

You will perform inspections, maintain emissions compliance, and contribute to a safe, efficient fleet while enjoying county benefits and a supportive work environment.

Qualifications

• Two years of related experience in duties similar to those listed.
• Must possess a complete set of tools at the time of hire.
• A valid Utah Driver’s License is required at the time of hire; state license must be obtained if needed.
• Must hold a Class A or B CDL with Tanker/HAZMAT endorsement at time of hire or within 30 days.
• UDOT Medical Card must be current at hire.
• Must pass a negative drug test and be subject to ongoing drug/alcohol testing; background check via fingerprinting may apply.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses mechanical and electrical problems; determines parts required.
• Repairs, overhauls, or replaces engines, transmissions, fuel systems and related components.
• Drives heavy equipment to test, diagnose issues, and perform road-call service as needed.
• Maintains records and reports including inspections, emissions, and fleet data.
